On July 17th, we will be having a Trainer Development Conference from 8:30-4:30 at Mt. Vernon, KY. Each unit should have it’s own trainer to train incoming leadership. Having your own trainer will ensure that every leader from your unit is trained! Every child deserves a trained leader!

A great service opportunity is coming up fast for your unit!
May 8th is the Jr. Ranger camp cleanup day at Camp McKee. This is of course our council campground, and we need to take care of it! Glen Felty will be heading up the group going from the Lonesome Pine district- if you are interested in going please get with him at 606-791-3564 or blacksheep@foothills.net. There’s lots to be done- big and small tasks- for all age groups! Please make plans on attending!

Commissioner training will be on May 8th, from 9-4:00 at the Scout Service Center in Lexington. If you are an unit commissioner, roundtable commissioner, or wanting to learn about being a commissioner- you need to be in attendance! There is no cost involved- but you do need to get a commissioner’s manual before the training. (cost is less than $5 for the manual).
For those of you that are unaware, a commissioner is a volunteer who is involved in the “service” aspect of Scouting. Our unit commissioners are assigned a few units that they correspond with on a regular basis. Our unit commissioners act as the doctors, friends, liasons, and teachers of our units.

Leaders,
I know it’s early, but it is getting time to start thinking about the fall popcorn sale! The most successful units will choose one person from their pack to be their popcorn “kernel,” or representative, who organizes and promotes the popcorn sales for their unit. We’re asking each of these “kernel’s” to be involved in the planning part of the process by attending the next popcorn meeting on Wednesday, May 19th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Scout Service Center in Lexington. If you can not attend in person please get in touch with me about how to be involved via. teleconference.

On March 27th, 2009, the Lonesome Pine District hosted it’s annual District Pinewood Derby race. Pack 884 at John’s Creek was our wonderful host, providing a great race and good time for all the boys. A big thanks goes out to Rob & Vicki Thornbury & the rest of the leadership and parents of Pack 884 for all their hard work. Also a big thanks to Scott & Kelly Fidell of 804 for helping run the electronics during the race. Our top 5 district “speed winners” and top 3 “design” winners all have the chance to go to compete in our Council Pinewood Derby at Camp McKee on May 1st.

The Mammoth Cave Trip will be here before you know it! Make sure to register with the Cub Master, Mike Smith 606.309.4401 by Wednesday, April 28, 2010, to reserve your spot on this awesome trip.
All campers will be responsible for their own camping gear and food. The cost for each person camping is $4.00. For the cave tour, individuals under the age of 12 will be $7.00 and individuals above the age of 12 will be $11.00. The Weblos and Wolves will be meeting at 6:30 at Holy Trinity on Tuesday, April 27. From there, you will walk the walking track to McDonald’s and pick up garbage then walk back to Holy Trinity.

PACK 828 will be having meetings ever Monday from April 26, 2010 - June 09, 2010. For the summer months the meetings will be bi-weekly. The first summer meeting will be June 21, 2010.
