Popcorn Unit Commitment Forms

It’s time to gear up for popcorn sales again!  I realize that the sale won’t start until the fall but now is the time to begin to get things and people in place.

Step #1: Recruit your popcorn kernel!  This is vital to your success!  Find someone who will be the unit’s cheerleader and will be the contact person for popcorn for the unit.

Step #2: Fill our your “popcorn unit commitment form.”  This form is just saying that your unit will commit to sell popcorn this fall.  If you fill it out and send it back in by June 30th, you will receive an additional 1% commission for your local unit.  That form can be found under the “popcorn” section of www.bgbsa.org.  Please don’t let this date sneak up on you!

Cub Scout Summertime Pack Award

While Scouting is tied closely with the school year, we certainly encourage each and every one of our packs to participate in Scouting throughout the summer.  Vacations and baseball sometimes make that difficult, but Scouts will always find a way to be there if there’s something fun in store!

Even if you can’t meet each week, think about having a picnic or day at the park one weekend.  Maybe visit a local museum or get together for a big parent vs. kid’s game of kickball.  Kids are in Scouts for the outdoors and the summer is the perfect time for it!

District Spring Camporee very wet- but fun!

This past weekend the Lonesome Pine District held it’s annual Spring Camporee at Elkhorn City.  Sandwiched between the thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday night, everyone had a wonderful time on Saturday during the day.

Our Boy Scouts had the wonderful opportunity to learn about tracking, fire accelerants, fishing, and do some whitewater rafting!  A big thanks to Steve and the crew from the whitewater rafting outfitters coming down to have some fun with the boys.

Lonesome Pine District Spring Campout

District Spring Campout information:

Location: On the riverbank at Elkhorn City.  If you come downtown it’s across the street from the bank; behind Bob’s Sport’s Shop.  It’s also right by the train museum.  You can park up by the museum or in the bank parking lot.  You’ll see tents set up.  There will be no parking on the beach!

*Alternate location if it rains too much is at the fishpond’s at Elkhorn, going towards Ashcamp.  Signs will be posted on the riverbank if this happens.*

Time: Registration is from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. on Friday or at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.  There will be no activities on Friday night or Sunday morning, but we certainly encourage you to come and camp the whole weekend!

Activities: For the Cub Scouts we have planned a fishing derby, archery, bb guns, volleyball, a raingutter regatta, parachute man drop, and crafts.  For the Boy Scouts we’re looking at a fishing derby and the chance to work on some of the 2010 exclusive Merit Badges such as Tracking and Signaling.  Also we’re really looking forward to the Saturday night campfire show of a Civil War reenactment.

Cost: $10 per Scout, $5 per adult or sibling.  Raingutter regatta boats will be on sale for $4.  T-Shirts will also be on sale at Bob’s Sports Shop for $8.  The city’s Apple Blossom festival will also be going on across the street so you may want to bring extra money for that.

Please Bring with you: Your camping gear, food for your unit, and fishing gear.  These things will not be provided!

If you have any questions please contact Doug Ramey at 606-754-9126 or myself!
